Proton Saga 4AT Review with Chris Wee | EvoMalaysia.com

In 2011, Proton swapped in the Punch CVT into the Saga, which from then on was called the Saga FLX.

Much-maligned by critics, the Punch CVT nevertheless survived a full model change of the Saga…

  1. Just to add on. Because the electronics are so capable (ie: ESC, EBD, BA, TCS & etc), manufacturers do not need to create a well balanced platform. They can make an average platform and let the electronics change the characteristics of the car.

  2. Proton made decision to change CVT to AT gearbox is good decision. But interior design, need to do something about it.Also please Proton, for customer sake, change new tyer which is more good quality compare to current one.

  3. Hi Kon, I disagree with the point where you mention that no way the Saga can adapt technology like AEB, keyless entry etc. Perodua has proved that AEB can be adapted onto older models by doing that on the Axia & Bezza even though initially they told that it was impossible. Also, the Saga comes with a “push start” button cut out in the dashboard so keyless was part of the design. There was even a hybrid Saga at one stage (although just a concept).

So I guess it’s whether or not to provide the tech, rather than an older platform not being able to accept it.

  4. Electronically, cars may seem to have progressed quickly in the past few years, but mechanically, they've gone backwards. From econocars that had fully independent suspension to today's torsion beam rear suspension butchery. They've cut costs from critical mechanical components to save money for fancy electronics in a desperate attempt to mask the dangerous flaws of cars that inherently possess unsafe handling characteristics.

Stop start systems are nothing more than desperate attempts to make on paper fuel economy ratings look better than what's realistically possible. Hey, let's turn off the engine when it's desperately needed to run the air-conditioner compressor at full blast to keep the in cabin temperatures survivable. Genius. Fuel economy numbers provided by a car's dashboard are always over optimistic jokes in my experience. Rest assured, anyone willing to keep these cars past warranty will keep Perodua's coffers growing thanks to inevitably shorter battery and starter motor lifespans.

  5. Really like this facelifted Saga, all round good package for very affordable cost. Kudos Proton. It's amazing RM 40k can get top spec of new sedan. Just one thing that irks me is that steering wheel, really wish they could swap with a better feel one, ugh.

New Bezza is nice upgrade, definitely trump Saga in space, toys & techs but Saga dynamic still unbeatable and RM 10k cheaper too (top spec one)

Overall, Bezza obviously better car on paper for most peoples but Saga is the thinking man choice 🙂

  6. aku menyampah betul la dengan trend kereta kontot ni. tak boleh ke kereta tempatan buat body lebar sikit. design tu buat minimalis je la mcm polo atau vento. handling pulak lembik macam tin milo. buatlah stable sikit macam satria neo ke. kereta sampah.

  7. i dont understand why Kon mentioned old platform and cant put forward with feature like push start /keyless.

My wife's 2019 saga vvt 4at i have installed an aftermarket keyless entry push start alarm set, brand Epsilon. Also installed trunk release button, 1 touch up/down power window for driver side, flip side mirror, and extra siren.

Even rear disc brake also can add on.

  8. Betul tu…Bezza dari platform Axia….Then, Axia tu platform Toyota Agya/Daihatsu Ayla dri tahun 2011/12 tk silap saye….so outdated jugak kann hehe…klau ade salah harap betulkan ?
